There are currently nearly 2,000 U.S. children under the age of 18 on the national transplant waiting list.  The Senate passed Senate Bill 1359 late Tuesday to give Oklahoma judges the power to possibly save some of those children.  Under the measure, if a court has to make the decision to withdraw life sustaining treatment of a child in state custody based upon the attending physician’s recommendation, then the judge has the authority to authorize anatomical gifts. 

A new law takes effect this November 1 that will better protect stranded motorists and wrecker services on Oklahoma roads and highways.  The legislation, by Senate principal author, Sen. Brent Howard, and House principal author, Rep. Charles Ortega, directs drivers to change into lanes that are not adjacent to the lane in which a stationary vehicle is displaying flashing lights.  If no extra lane exists, drivers are to slow down and proceed cautiously. 

State Sen. Brent Howard was on hand for a ceremonial bill signing recently held at the Capitol for House Bill 2468, creating the Oklahoma Gestational Agreement Act.  Howard, R-Altus, is principal Senate author of the measure and worked with House principal author, Rep. Jason Dunnington, D-Oklahoma City, to get the measure approved and signed into law during the 2019 legislative session.

State Sen. Brent Howard has been appointed to four Senate committees for the 57th Legislature. Howard, R-Altus, will serve on the Senate Agriculture and Wildlife Committee, the Judiciary Committee, the General Government Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services.

            The Agriculture and Wildlife Committee primarily deals with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife and Conservation.

Brent Howard is now officially on the job as State Senator for District 38.  The Altus Republican was sworn in during a ceremony at the Capitol on Wednesday as friends, family and other supporters looked on from the Senate Chamber.
