OKLAHOMA CITY — Sen. Jonathan Wingard, R-Ada, today issued the following statement on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
“On a very hallowed day, we pause to remember the tragic event 24 years ago when a group of ruthless killers attacked our nation in a very cowardly manner. That attack on September 11, 2001, was not just an attack to murder innocent people, but it was an attack on the very foundation of our nation and the way of life so many of our forefathers fought and died to preserve. As a nation of people who have been bequeathed a representative form of government that is controlled by WE THE PEOPLE, it is incumbent on us to do all we can to ensure we pass this great nation on to generations to come.
“Make no mistake, our values are under attack, not only abroad but here on our own soil. We saw just yesterday that Charlie Kirk, a very principled man of God and patriot, father of 2, and loving husband, was assassinated for his beliefs. Charlie was doing nothing more than practicing his First Amendment rights to speak when evil struck him down at the young age of 31. We have an obligation to ensure all Americans have the freedoms guaranteed to them by God and our Constitution and this we will do. I ask you to join me in praying for the families who lost loved ones 24 years ago today and the family and loved ones of Charlie Kirk.”
