Senator Green Secures Funding to Help Constituents with Contaminated Wells

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Grant Green, R-Wellston, today celebrated a $2 million state appropriation that will provide clean water for a residential area in his district with dozens of homes plagued by contaminated water wells.

After more than six months of working closely with families in the area, Senator Green partnered with legislative budget leaders to secure critical funding for water infrastructure improvements in Logan County Rural Water District No. 1, which serves the county’s southern corner.

Senate Bill 1151 appropriates $2 million from the Progressing Rural Economic Prosperity Fund to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board to extend county water lines so these residents have safe and clean drinking water.

“This funding fixes a serious problem that’s been dismissed and ignored for too long,” Senator Green said. “When families can’t trust the water coming out of their taps, that’s a public health emergency that demands urgent action. I’m proud the Legislature worked quickly to cut through the red tape and bureaucracy to find a solution for Oklahomans who have been living with this nightmare every day.”

Senator Green thanked his constituents, Chris and Tammy Boarman, for bringing this matter to his attention. About a year ago, the Boarmans discovered that their well water is contaminated, making it unsafe to drink and causing significant damage to their home appliances.

“We’re incredibly grateful for Senator Green’s tireless support in our neighborhood’s fight for something as basic as clean water,” said Chris and Tammy Boarman, residents of the Highpointe Estates neighborhood in Logan County. “This funding will finally bring this vital resource right to our tap and turn our house into a livable home again.”

Senate Appropriations Chairman Chuck Hall, R-Perry, is the principal author of SB 1151. His Senate district includes the rest of Logan County.

“Ensuring all Oklahomans have access to clean drinking water is a critical priority,” Hall said. “No family should have to live with contaminated water. I was glad Senator Green and I could work together to solve this serious problem.”

Senator Green also thanked Rep. Collin Duel, R-Guthrie, for working alongside him to help secure this new funding.

"I was proud to work with Senator Green to get this funding across the finish line,” Representative Duel said. “Rural communities like ours deserve the same basic infrastructure as anywhere else, and this investment will make a real difference for families in southern Logan County. It’s a win for public health, rural development, and doing what’s right.”

The OWRB and Logan County Rural Water District No. 1 are working together to deploy the funding for this project.
