Senator Green Celebrates 50th Wewoka Sorghum Festival

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Grant Green, R-Wellston, is encouraging Oklahomans to visit Wewoka this weekend for the 50th Annual Sorghum Festival, taking place all day Saturday, Oct. 25.

Senator Green attended the Wewoka Sorghum Festival Banquet on Monday, a long-standing tradition that kicks off the week’s festivities and brings together festival organizers, community members and volunteers who make the festival possible.

“The Wewoka Sorghum Festival started as a small, local celebration and has grown over the past 50 years into one of Oklahoma’s premier fall festivals, attracting thousands of people from across the state and nation,” Senator Green said. “This family-friendly event is a great chance to enjoy Wewoka’s small-town charm and community spirit while enjoying some delicious, locally grown sorghum.”

Green praised the work of local organizers, volunteers and sponsors who work year-round to make the festival a success.

“For five decades, the Sorghum Festival has highlighted Oklahoma’s strong agricultural roots and celebrated the traditions that define rural communities,” Green said. “Thanks to the Wewoka Chamber of Commerce, the Seminole Nation Museum, and everyone who has played a role in making this festival such a lasting success. In addition to being a family tradition, this festival is huge for local businesses and results in a major economic boost for the area.”

The festival is free to attend and will be held throughout downtown Wewoka from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The celebration includes a parade, a fun run, a car show, food vendors, arts and crafts booths and more.
