Democratic Leader Julia Kirt chosen as Senator of the Year by Oklahoma Veterans Council

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate Democratic Leader Julia Kirt said she was honored to have been named Senator of the Year by the Oklahoma Veterans Council. Each year, the Senate and House meet in a special joint session to honor Oklahoma’s military veterans. Kirt, D-Oklahoma City, learned she’d been chosen for the honor at the ceremony held during the 2025 legislative session for her work supporting veterans, their families and the mission of the Oklahoma Veterans Council.

“I am humbled and honored to have been chosen for this award by the Oklahoma Veterans Council,” Kirt said. “Our veterans serve our country with valor and sacrifice. It is truly a privilege that my service in the Senate provides an opportunity to champion legislation that solves real problems in the lives of veterans, like access to affordable housing, mental health care, and more prosperity.”

The Oklahoma Veterans Council’s mission is to represent all Oklahoma veterans and their families, advocating at the federal and state level on behalf of those who have served. There are currently 275,000 military veterans who make their home in Oklahoma.
