Deevers’ High Dosage Tutoring Bill Passes Education Committee

OKLAHOMA CITY- The Oklahoma Senate Education Committee unanimously approved Senate Bill 1366 on Tuesday. The bill, authored by Senator Dusty Deevers, R-Elgin, would establish a statewide high-dosage tutoring program to serve students in grades K-8 who are falling behind.

Under the bill, students in participating districts will benefit from focused, small-group tutoring designed to offer tailored and intensive support. To reward effective teaching, the legislation introduces a performance-based incentive structure for educators:

  • Semester Stipends: Teachers receive $1,600 per semester for each cohort they instruct.
  • Achievement Bonuses: An additional $1,000 is awarded for every student who reaches a full grade-level advancement within a single year.

Senator Deevers emphasized that the bill is beneficial for everyone involved.

“This program sharpens literacy and math proficiency for struggling students while also ensuring dedicated educators are justly rewarded for the additional work and energy they invest in the next generation,” Deevers said. “High dosage tutoring is a proven program to get students caught up to grade level.

“I appreciate the support from the committee and look forward to continuing to work to bring high dosage tutoring to Oklahoma schools.”
