AJ Griffin graduated from Adair High School in 1986. She attended Oklahoma State University where she had the honor of participating in the Cowboy Marching Band as a Drum-Major. She began her professional career in the restaurant industry and then spent several years as a teacher and hospitality careers instructor. Griffin has spent the last eight years managing a not-for-profit businesses, dedicated to improving the lives of children and families.

In 2001, Griffin was named to the Oklahoma Child Abuse Training and Coordination Council. She has served as a board member for the Oklahoma Association of Youth Services, Oklahoma Substance Abuse Service Alliance and the Guthrie Chamber of Commerce. Senator Griffin and her husband, Trey, serve as deacons for the First Christian Church in Guthrie. They have two children, Alexandra and Reagan.
