Sen. Stanley named chair of Veterans and Military Affairs

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, has been chosen to lead the Oklahoma Senate’s Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, which considers legislation impacting veterans and active duty members of the Oklahoma National Guard.  Agencies working with the committee include the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs and the Military Department.

“I am deeply honored and gratified by this appointment.  I have the tremendous privilege and great responsibility of representing a district that is home to Tinker Air Force Base, which is not only the largest military installation in Oklahoma, but one of the largest and most important in the entire country,” Stanley said.  “It’s critical to our national defense and to our district and state’s economy as well.  I am committed to helping identify and pass legislation that supports Tinker’s mission,  and its military and civilian personnel, as well as our other installations throughout the state, and I will promote legislation to support, honor and protect our veterans.”

In addition to serving as chair of the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, Stanley will also serve on the Aeronautics and Transportation Committee.

“Aeronautics is now Oklahoma’s second leading industry behind energy, and it’s a vital part of the economy of Senate District 42.  Safe, modern transportation infrastructure is also vital to the economic development of our district,” Stanley said.

Stanley will also hold seats on the Senate Finance Committee, Rules, Health and Human Services, and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.

“Each of these areas directly impacts the lives of the citizens I serve in the Oklahoma Senate.  Having a vote in these committees will help me shape the public policy and appropriations decisions that are so important to our district and the entire state,” Stanley said.

The Senate will meet for an organizational day on Jan. 3, then formally convene the 2023 legislative session on Feb. 6.
