Senate Approves Funding to Continue Oklahoma Capitol Renovation Project

Sen. Brian Bingman Sen. Brian Bingman

Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman, R-Sapulpa, released the following comment after the Senate approved House Bill 3168, which will allow for the issuance of up to $125 million in bonds to continue the repair and restoration of the state Capitol:

“Our state Capitol is a treasured asset, but after decades of neglect it had begun to literally fall down around us. The Legislature in 2014 took initial steps to repair the crumbling Capitol. This new round of bond funding allows for its continued restoration by addressing the building’s many infrastructure needs, which include outdated plumbing and electrical systems. The bill secures funding up front so we can fully execute the master plan without unnecessary delays. The Capitol is the people’s house and for nearly 100 years, it’s also served as symbol of our great state. It’s befitting we ensure its restoration so that it continues to function as the seat of state government for the next 100 years.”—Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman, R-Sapulpa
