State Senate For Immediate Release: April 27, 2012 Sen. Dan Newberry today issued the following statement regarding the Governor’s signing of Senate Bill 1274, the Heartbeat Informed Consent Act. The law will require abortion providers to inform patients they have a right to hear the heartbeat of their unborn child before it is aborted. “I’m tremendously grateful for the Governor’s support in this effort to reaffirm the central importance of pro-life values in Oklahoma. This law is part of a broader effort to establish a culture of life in our state – one which places protection of the innocent and vulnerable among our greatest values and priorities. “Women deserve to have as much information as possible before they make the life-altering decision to end a pregnancy.
