Senate Honors Life of Robert Milacek
The Oklahoma State Senate has approved a measure honoring
the life of former member Robert Milacek, who passed away on March 31
of this year. Milacek, a Republican from Enid, served in the House of
Representatives from 1976 to 1982. He was later elected to the Senate
and served from 1996 to 2004. On Wednesday members unanimously approved
Senate Resolution 140, praising Milacek and mourning his loss.
Sen. Patrick
Anderson, who followed Milacek in the Senate, said his predecessor
represented the best of what an elected official should be.
“People who knew Robert Milacek and served with him will all tell
you the same thing. He was a statesman who always put people above politics,”
said Anderson, R-Enid. “Above all, he was a kind, good man and Oklahoma
is better for his service.”
Milacek, who was born in Enid, graduated from Waukomis High School and
went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Panhandle State University
and completed his master’s degree at Phillips University. He taught
history and government for more than 20 years, most of which was at Pioneer
High School in Waukomis. He also served as principal at Glencoe Junior
High School and taught at Phillips University.
“He was liked and respected by everyone who served with him in the
Legislature,” Anderson said. “He is truly missed, but we are
grateful for the opportunity to have known him and for his work on behalf
of the people of Oklahoma.”
