Laster Comments on Sustaining Governor Henry’s Veto of Fatally Flawed Gun Legislation

There is great concern from a growing number of Oklahomans that this bill will be exploited by felons and extremists to jeopardize the public safety of our citizens. Just a few weeks ago the author of this bill made national news for remarks he made advocating the formation of a militia to protect Oklahomans from the federal government. If this bill becomes law, it would be the equivalent of giving machine guns to wing nut militia sympathizers. It puts the safety of Oklahoma men, women and children in danger. I believe the Governor's veto and our action to sustain his veto was the right thing to do, and most importantly the responsible thing to do for the safety of all Oklahomans."
