Bingman Legislation Encourages Use of Oklahoma Energy

Sen. Brian Bingman Sen. Brian Bingman

The State Senate passed House Bill 1949 by Senator Brian Bingman, R-Sapulpa, which received overwhelming bipartisan support and includes tax credits for compressed natural gas (CNG) use in Oklahoma.

House Bill 1949 extends the duration of existing tax credits available on the purchase of qualified clean-burning and electric motor vehicles. A 50% tax credit is available for originally equipped and converted qualified clean-burning and electric motor vehicle property.

Bingman is chairman of the Senate Energy and Environment Committee and says Oklahoma’s resource of natural gas is plentiful and should be used.

“Senate Republicans have worked to lead our nation in developing energy independence,” said Bingman. “This is our opportunity to be an energy leader through the use of Oklahoma’s abundance of natural energy sources.”

If House Bill 1949 is signed by the Governor, tax credits will not only be available for Oklahoma citizens who use CNG for their vehicles, but also for those who use the fuel in service stations. A $2,500 tax credit will be available for Oklahomans who use CNG in their home refueling systems as well.
