Sen. Todd Lamb
SENATE PASSES PRO-LIFE REFORM
The Oklahoma State Senate approved pro-life legislation
by Majority Floor Leader Todd
Lamb on Wednesday.
House Bill 1595 prohibits a person from performing
an abortion solely because of the sex of the child and creates
the Statistical Reporting of Abortions Act, which requires physicians
who perform abortions to report certain information to the Oklahoma
State Department of Health (OSDH).
“This legislation is essential in protecting
the sanctity of life,” said Senator Lamb. “Too often
the life of the unborn is taken for granted and I applaud my colleagues
for their bi-partisan support of a pro-life measure, despite attempts
on the floor to sabotage this issue important to families across
our state.”
Tony Lauinger, State Chairman of “Oklahomans
For Life,” said, “Advocates of abortion often describe
it as being ‘safe, legal, and rare.’ This bill will
measure the accuracy of that claim.”
“Complications of abortion, in particular,
are very seldom reported, and the magnitude of abortions’
toll on women’s health and well-being is not truly known,”
Lauinger added.
The measure will now go back to the House for final
passage before heading to the Governor’s desk.
