Branan Measure Would Increase Funding for County Roads and Bridges

Sen. Cliff Branan Sen. Cliff Branan

Sen. Cliff Branan has filed legislation that would direct an increased portion of motor vehicle tax revenue to the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges Fund. The Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, Branan said the measure would redirect revenue currently going to the General Revenue Fund.

“With construction costs increasing, the Legislature must ensure that we appropriate sufficient funding to continue improvements to our county roads and bridges,” said Branan, R-Oklahoma City. “We have made important strides in recent years, but there is much more to be done. This measure is another step toward ensuring that transportation funding is held harmless in the budgeting process.”

Senate Bill 1189 would redirect motor vehicle tax revenue from the General Revenue Fund to the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges Fund over a period of six years. When the Rebuilding Oklahoma Access and Driver Safety Fund (ROADS Fund) reaches its statutory cap of $370 million, remaining revenue would be dedicated to supporting local transportation systems.
