Senate Honors Miss Oklahoma
The Oklahoma State Senate gave unanimous approval to a resolution
honoring Makenna Smith, Miss Oklahoma 2007. The resolution was requested
by Senate President Pro Tempore Mike Morgan and Co-President Pro Tempore
Glenn Coffee, with all of the members of the Senate co-authoring the measure.
“Makenna has done a wonderful job representing our state and promoting
a very important cause—her platform has been seat belt safety, and
I’m sure she’s been an effective spokesperson for this important
public safety issue,” said Morgan, D-Stillwater.
While completing her journalism degree at the University of Oklahoma in
2005, Makenna interned for the Senate Communications Division, assisting
with press releases and other assignments.
“It is always gratifying to see how many of our former pages and
interns have gone on to accomplish great things for Oklahoma, and certainly
Miss Oklahoma is no exception,” said Coffee, R-Oklahoma City. “We’re
all very proud of Makenna, and we’re confident we’ll be hearing
more from her in the years to come.”
Makenna said the year had been an exciting one for her.
“It has been an absolutely incredible year, getting to represent
the state of Oklahoma, especially during the Centennial year, so it has
been a huge honor for me,” said Makenna. “There was a sense
of Oklahoma pride throughout the year, so I’m really glad I got
to experience that as Miss Oklahoma.”
Before winning the crown, Makenna had begun work on a second degree in
nursing at Oklahoma City University, and plans to resume her studies when
her reign ends later this year.
