Co-Chairs Laud General Government/Transportation
Provisions in GA Bill
The
Co-Chairs of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee
on General Government and Transportation
both endorsed provisions of House Bill 1234,
the General Appropriations bill.
Senators Mary Easley, a Democrat from Tulsa,
and Randy Brogdon, a Republican from Owasso,
said the GA bill serves as an appropriate
blueprint to ensure critical services upon
which all Oklahomans depend remain intact.
Both senators were involved in negotiating
the base-funding levels contained in HB
1234 for agencies under their subcommittee’s
jurisdiction. The senators said the bill
is a product of bipartisan cooperation.
“This legislation provides $3.2 million
that is needed for critical maintenance
on state-owned buildings and facilities.
It also provides additional funding to the
state election board for the 2008 presidential
primary,” stated Brogdon.
"This bill invests in the Rural Economic
Action Plan (REAP)—a program that
boosts funding to small rural communities
to make necessary infrastructure upgrades
critical to growing their economies,"
Easley said.
"There is also critical funding included
in this budget to continue the progress
we've made over the past few years at repairing
our crumbling roads and bridges." said
Easley.
Both senators hope the bipartisan legislation
will be signed into law.
