The State Senate adopted a resolution on Wednesday honoring the
public career of former State Senator Bryce Baggett, who passed
away on February 15. Baggett served in the State House of Representatives
from 1958 through 1964, and in the State Senate from 1964 through
1972. State Sen. Clark
Jolley is principal author of the resolution. Jolley represents
District 41, the same district Baggett once represented.
“Senator Baggett served his constituents with dedication
and integrity,” said Jolley, R-Edmond. “Fellow members
relied on his expertise, particularly with legislation on taxes
and education. He served his district and this state with distinction.”
Baggett is credited as being the guiding force in mandating kindergarten
in Oklahoma public schools. While in the Senate, he chaired the
Constitutional Revision and Regulatory Service Committee. In 1968,
he was appointed to the National Conference of Commissioners on
Uniform State Laws. In 1980, he served as Executive Director of
the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.
A memorial for Senator Baggett was held later in the afternoon
in Oklahoma City.
