Senate Designates "County Government Day" in Oklahoma

Senator Earl Garrison Senator Earl Garrison

The Oklahoma State Senate passed a resolution Wednesday designating February 14, 2007 as "County Government Day" in Oklahoma. Senate Concurrent Resolution 5 is authored by Senator Earl Garrison and Representative R.C. Pruett.

"County governments play a vital role in Oklahoma's economy and governmental structure, and it's imperative that all levels of government - federal, state, county and municipal - work together for the
betterment of our state," said Garrison, D-Muskogee.

County elected officials and their associations will be visiting the State Capitol on February 14 in order to further familiarize themselves with the operations of and to forge closer bonds of partnership with their state government.

"This will be an important day for both county and state government. It will give the two governments the opportunity to learn more about each other and about the needs of each," said Pruett, D-Antlers. "Together we will work to make Oklahoma even stronger and more successful as we enter into our second century."
