Sen. Jolley Praises Dismissal of OEA Lawsuit

Sen. Clark Jolley said Friday the decision by Oklahoma County District Judge Daniel Owens to dismiss the Oklahoma Education Association’s (OEA) lawsuit against the State Legislature was good news for the entire state. Jolley said he was glad that the judge saw through the OEA’s attempts to appropriate monies through the wrong channel.

“The OEA’s attempts were the wrong course of action and sent the wrong signal to the legislature and Oklahoma citizens,” said Jolley, R-Edmond. “This part in the national movement has met a dead end in Oklahoma.”

Jolley said the National Education Association union bosses had attempted this in other states with success, and said he was glad Oklahoma had not fallen victim to this tactic.

“Our schools get the lion’s share of the state budget and just received a record appropriation this session. I find it ironic that the OEA would sue to get more money allocated by a Judge while simultaneously opposing the 65% solution to require that 65% of the resources spent on education actually go to the classroom instead of administrative overhead,” Jolley said.
