Senate Leader Comments on Expanding Call of Special Session and Budget Talks

Statement by Senate President Pro Tempore Mike Morgan

“It is the responsibility of Governor Henry to set the agenda for special session, not the Legislature.

“The Governor made it very clear when he issued the call for special session that he wants the Legislature to focus our efforts on writing a state budget.

“During the special session, Senate Democrats will remain committed to providing investments in education, public safety and job creation initiatives while also addressing strategic tax cuts to hard-working middle-class families that will help grow Oklahoma’s economy.

“Budget talks will resume early next week and I am hopeful we are very close to a framework that will guide the budget process.

“I anticipate asking members of the Senate to be ready to come back to the Capitol sometime in mid-June to complete our work on behalf of the great people who sent us here to be their voice in the Legislature.”
