Oklahoma State
Senate For Immediate Release:
May 25, 2006 State Sen. James A. Williamson said Gov. Brad Henry’s call for a special session on the state budget is a failure of leadership by the governor. “This special session is a failure of leadership by Gov. Henry. It is incredible to me that he apparently has no ability to convince any of the Senate Democrats to compromise on the budget and tax cuts,” stated Williamson, R-Tulsa. “I can’t remember any past governor who could not persuade
even one senator from his own party to support his budget proposal. This
is especially hard to believe considering Gov. Henry served in the State
Senate with many of the Senate Democrats who have refused to support his
compromise budget proposal. Unless he can convince his colleagues to support
his proposal, we’re in danger of having a government shutdown on
July 1st,” he said. |
