Sen. Mike Schulz Takes Oath of Office
With family, friends, supporters and fellow lawmakers
gathered in the Senate Chamber, Altus Republican Mike Schulz took
the official oath of office, becoming the newest member of the Oklahoma
State Senate. Sen. Schulz won the District 38 seat in a special
election one week ago.
"This is a great day for my family and all our friends and
supporters who share our vision for District 38 and for our state,"
said Schulz. "I am honored and humbled, but most of all I am
excited to be on the job here in the State Senate."
His wife, Reenie stood with him while son Benjamin, 11, and daughter
Abby, 9, looked on as Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Joseph
M. Watt administered the oath of office. As Schulz completed his
oath, he was given a standing ovation.
Schulz has lived in District 38 his whole life. A farmer, Schulz
also owns and operates a custom cotton harvesting operation. An
Oklahoma State University graduate, he has volunteered his time
and talent in many civic, church and professional organizations,
including serving as Chairman of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young
Farmer and Ranchers state committee as well as serving on an agriculture
advisory committee for Congressman J.C. Watts.
Senate Republican Leader Glenn Coffee said Schulz would represent
his district well at the State Capitol.
"Senator Schulz brings energy, intelligence and tremendous
experience to this body which will help us continue to promote an
agenda that will grow our state's economy, create more jobs and
help ensure our children will be able to stay right here in Oklahoma,"
Coffee said. "Mike Schulz will do an excellent job representing
District 38 in the State Senate."
