Senator Kenneth Corn
Corn Named Legislator of the Year by CASA
Having played an integral part in facilitating
communication and cooperation between Oklahoma’s Court Appointed
Special Advocates and the state legislature, Senator Kenneth Corn
was recently named 2006 Legislator of the Year by CASA at the group’s
annual Awards of Excellence Banquet.
Oklahoma CASA Executive Director Anna Naukam praised Corn for
his efforts to make a significant contribution to the lives of children.
“Senator Corn has always taken the initiative to heighten
community awareness of the issues facing neglected and abused children,”
she said. “His work as a supporter of local and statewide
efforts on behalf of our children has distinguished him as an invaluable
asset to our organization.”
CASA is a nationwide network of community volunteers appointed
to serve as advocates for neglected children in court. An entirely
voluntary member organization, CASA provides assistance to children
through programs across the state.
Corn said it was an honor to be recognized for his contribution
to the advancement of children’s issues.
“CASA volunteers make a sacrifice to work on behalf of some
of our state’s most vulnerable citizens – abused and
neglected children,” said Corn, D-Poteau. “Their dedication
to fighting for our children should never go unnoticed.”
The Majority Caucus Chairman, Corn has been selected to serve on
the March of Dimes National Youth Council and the National School-to-Work
Advisory Councils for the Departments of Education and Labor.
“The issues facing Oklahoma children will always be among
my greatest priorities,” said Corn. “I will remain committed
to preserving and strengthening safeguards for our children to ensure
their protection from abuse.”
