Sen. Harrison Honored by Fellow Members
State
Sen. J.
Berry Harrison (D-Fairfax) was honored by his fellow
members of the Oklahoma State Senate on Tuesday. Harrison,
who is completing his sixteenth year in the Senate,
will be leaving the district 10 post due to term limits.
Harrison listened as lawmakers praised
the farmer/rancher for his many years of service in
the Senate, as well as his quiet, modest approach to
politics. As members rose to speak about Harrison, the
respect and admiration he has garnered from members
of both political parties was a common theme. As many
would go on to note, Harrison will leave the Senate
remembered as one of its most well-liked members.
“As I’m certain all of our
members would say, it has been a pleasure to have served
with Senator Harrison,” said Senate Pro Tempore
Mike Morgan (D-Stillwater). “His warmth and good
humor will be greatly missed in the Senate, and he will
certainly be remembered not only as a fine public servant
but also as one of the finest men we know.”
As a token of gratitude, Morgan presented
Harrison with a commemorative microphone and voting
board from his senate floor desk, marking his 16 years
of service to the state and his constituents.
Sen. David Myers (R-Ponca City) added
that Harrison’s reputation both as a public servant
and a man of integrity is well known throughout Northern
Oklahoma. “As I prepared to run for office, it
didn’t take long for me to learn that no one in
the state is as loved by people on both sides of the
aisle and everyone in our area of the state recognizes
him and knows he’s a great man,” Myers said.
Thanking the members, Harrison referred
to his Senate tenure as one of the great honors of his
life.
“One of the great things about
this job is actually the people you meet and the relationships
you develop over time,” said Harrison. “It’s
really been one of the highlights of my life and I can’t
begin to tell you what an honor it has been to serve
and how many great memories I will take with me.”
