Rabon Chosen as Vice Chairman Of Senate Appropriations Committee

Senate President Pro Tempore Mike Morgan announced the selection Tuesday of Senator Jeff Rabon to serve as the new vice chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee

Rabon is chairman of the Senate Appropriations Sub-Committee on Natural Resources and Regulatory Services.

“Writing the budget is the most important the job the Legislature does each year. It’s a job that involves never losing site of the big picture. I’m counting on Senator Rabon to be a key member of the Appropriations team in the Senate and I know he’ll do an outstanding job,” Morgan said.

The vice chairman of Appropriations is called up to take part in budget negotiations with the House and Governor’s office and to run meetings of the full Appropriations Committee in the absence of the chairman.

First elected in 1996, the Hugo Democrat won election to a third term in the Senate in 2004.

Rabon serves an Assistant Majority Floor Leader in the Senate. Before being named to chair the Appropriations Sub-Committee on Natural Resources and Regulatory Services in 2005, Rabon served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee for two years.
