Adelson Says OHCA Identified Savings Will Mean $30 Million Cut in Administrative Budget

Senator Tom Adelson Senator Tom Adelson

Senator Tom Adelson, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Sub-Committee on Health and Social Services, today congratulated the Oklahoma Health Care Authority for identifying a way to reduce billing errors and save the state $30 million.

The senator said that he now plans to reduce the OHCA budget by a corresponding amount.

“This effort by the Health Care Authority will make $30 million available to provide services to Oklahomans through other state agencies. Oklahoma has unique opportunities in early childhood, school based clinics and federally qualified health centers to match state dollars with private donations, for example. I look forward to considering where these funds can do the most good to create a healthier and more prosperous Oklahoma,” Adelson said.

The Senator explained that OHCA identified approximately a 9 percent billing error rate and that officials believe they can reduce that rate to 6 percent. Currently, billing errors total approximately $100 million a year and officials believe they can reduce that amount by $30 million.
