Statement by Senate President Pro Tempore Mike Morgan
“Oklahomans have a deep belief in personal responsibility
and accountability and that includes a Legislature that governs
and budgets in a responsible manner. As we carefully consider how
best to make substantial new investments in the priority areas of
education, public safety, health care and our state’s crumbling
roads and bridges, Senate Democrats will proceed with the knowledge
that the Legislature is accountable to the people of Oklahoma.
“The projection of surplus revenue above and beyond the cap
on the Rainy Day Fund is another indicator that Oklahoma’s
economy continues to grow – especially in the oil and gas
sector. With that in mind, it is important that we move forward
responsibly and take great care as we consider how best invest this
one-time windfall to ensure a brighter future for our state.”
Note to editors: Earlier today, the Office of State
Finance released the Proposed Fiscal Year 2007 Revenue Certification.
The OSF packet indicates $314 million in growth revenue for FY 2007
and surplus FY 2006 revenue of more than $400 million.
