Senate Takes on House at the Brick
Members of the Senate and the House will represent
their respective chambers as the two sides go head to head for the
second annual House vs. Senate baseball game. About half the members
of each chamber have signed up to play in the Tuesday afternoon
event. State Sen. Scott Pruitt, Managing General Partner of the
Oklahoma RedHawks, said all are welcome to cheer on the team of
their choice.
“Everyone had a great time last year—especially our
team. We pretty much dominated the House every inning and I’m
expecting the same this year—and not just because the Senate
has the home-field advantage,” Pruitt said. The Senate won
last year’s game 11-4.
Pruitt pointed out that this year’s Senate team includes a
former professional baseball player, Sen. Randy Bass of Lawton,
who played for the Minnesota Twins, the Kansas City Royals, the
Montreal Expos, the San Diego Padres, the Texas Rangers as well
as playing professional baseball in Japan.
“I’m sure the House has some good players too—I
just can’t think of any of the top of my head,” laughed
Pruitt.
While admission is free, Sen. Pruitt said organizers are asking
those who attend to consider making a contribution to a worthy cause.
Funds raised during the event will go to help the family of Ron
Henderson, a long-time Senate staff member who recently lost his
fight against cancer.
“We’re happy to be able to do something to help Ron’s
family. I think the idea is to make this a benefit every year from
now on—it gives us a chance to participate in a fun event
that can also do some good here in Oklahoma,” Pruitt said.
The House vs. Senate Baseball game gets underway at 4 p.m. on Tuesday,
May 10 at the SBC Bricktown Ballpark. Concessions will be available.
