Hobson Excited That Speaker Has Agreed To Sign On as House Author of Senate Bill 745

“I am thrilled that Speaker Hiett has agreed to serve as House author of Senate Bill 745, which contains the Higher Education bond package created by the presidents of the state’s colleges and universities.

“He has promised to grant the bill a hearing the House. As House author, he has the ability to move it through the process quickly and send it to Governor Henry’s desk with the same unanimous support it received in the Senate.

“As part of an agreement with Speaker Hiett, I have also signed on as author of his Higher Education bond proposal.

“In doing so in a meeting late Tuesday afternoon, I restated to the Speaker my position that I would not agree to re-open the list of projects funded in the bond proposal. I continue to believe that the objective list created by the Presidents should remain untouched.

“I am, as I said last week, willing to consider other parts of the Speaker’s bond proposal. It is my belief that our agreement for the Speaker to become the House author of Senate Bill 745 and for me to be the Senate author of House Bill 2050 will allow us to keep both bills alive and thus pass Higher Education bond legislation as soon as possible.”
