City Chosen for 2007 National Legislative Conference
Oklahoma’s
capital has been chosen as host city for the Council of State Government’s
2007 Annual State Trends and Leadership Forum. That’s according
to State Senator Gilmer Capps,
who announced the selection on Tuesday.
“I’ve been a member of CSG for many years. Throughout that
time I’ve lobbied to bring one of the annual meetings to our state.
What better time than during our centennial year? This will bring positive
national attention to Oklahoma,” said Capps, D-Snyder.
Capps, who is Assistant Majority Floor Leader in the Senate, said CSG
includes government officials from all 50 states including all three
branches of government.
“This conference will attract as many as 1400 visitors with an
economic impact of up to $4 million. But it’s also a chance to
showcase the many attractions Oklahoma City and our entire state has
to offer,” explained Senator Capps.
“I think it will impress our visitors and help persuade them to
bring others back to our state again and again.”
Blake Wade is Executive Director of the State’s Centennial Commission,
which is charged with planning the many events marking the state’s
100th anniversary. Wade said the commission would help coordinate the
volunteers needed to host the conference as well as help arrange activities
for those attending.
“Our centennial is a perfect time to host a national conference.
With all the development going on in Oklahoma City in Bricktown and
all the MAPS projects, we have more to offer than ever before. I think
this is a very exciting opportunity both for the city and for our entire
state,” said Wade.
