For Immediate Release: April 9, 2003 Senate President Pro Tempore Cal Hobson officially released Senate assignments for the General Conference Committee on Appropriations Wednesday – one day after Legislative leaders and Governor Brad Henry announced an agreement on the Fiscal Year 2004 Budget. “Our global budget agreement was certainly a big step, but there is still much work to be completed on what I have always called the toughest job in this building – writing a balanced budget for state government,” said Hobson, D-Lexington. Senate Appropriations Chairman Mike Morgan, D-Stillwater, and Vice Chairman Ben Robinson, D-Muskogee, will lead the committee. “Having reached a budget agreement with our new governor, the Speaker and Republican leaders in both houses at this early date will facilitate the work by our subcommittees, but the fiscal reality of the state’s historic budget shortfall means that those subcommittees have some very difficult choices to make,” Hobson said. Morgan
told members Wednesday morning that his goal is for the subcommittees
to complete the work of writing appropriations bills for each state
agency before the Senate adjourns next Wednesday. 2003 GCCA SUBCOMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS Senator Mike Morgan,
