$1.1 million was provided to increase pay for public health nurses (PHN). The action addresses a long-standing gap in pay between PHNs and other Registered Nurses employed by the state. $131,000 was provided to establish, beginning January 1, 1998, a Tulsa satellite office of the Health Department vital records division. $375,000 was provided to boost immunization programs at county health departments. $429,000 was appropriated to the State Health Department for chronic disease programs including HIV/AIDS, end-stage renal disease, sickle cell, diabetes, and breast and cervical cancers. $682,000 was appropriated for pregnancy prevention programs. Of the total, $250,000 will address teen pregnancy prevention programs, and $432,000 will provide contraceptive supplies and services. $170,000 was provided to implement a statewide trauma system. |
