Senator Anastasia A. Pittman was born on July 19, in Miami, Florida and has resided in Oklahoma for over 45 years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Public Relations from the University of Oklahoma, and a master’s degree in Urban Education and Behavioral Science from Langston University. Pittman is an educator, consultant, public relations and diversity specialist, radio broadcaster, registered tutor with Oklahoma City Public Schools, former case manager, and former mentor for the United States Department of Justice, Western District.

She won her election to District 99 of the House of Representatives in November 2006 and District 48 of the State Senate in November 2014. Pittman is the second Seminole citizen to serve in the legislature and earned a distinguished career in public service for almost 20 years. She is the former Chair of the Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus, former Chair of the Oklahoma Native American Caucus, and former Democratic Whip. Pittman currently serves as the Assistant Democratic Leader, Minority Floor Leader, Vice Chair of the National Caucus of Native American State Legislators, Regional Director and Vice Chair of Telecommunication for the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, member of the National Foundation of Women Legislators Bylaws & International Committee, member of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, and original member of the Quad Caucus of State Legislators.

She is a member of Northeast Church of Christ, Leadership Oklahoma – Class XXII, Bricktown Rotary Club, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., American Council of Young Political Leaders Alumni, Rose State College Foundation Board of Trustees and Board of Governors, Advisory Board Member of the Oklahoma City University Meinders School of Business, Red Earth, Junior League of Oklahoma, the Commission on the Status of Women, NOBEL Women, Women in Legislators’ Lobby, Urban League Young Professionals, and is a life member of the NAACP.

Pittman has received numerous honors and awards including: Honorary Tuskegee Airman of the Charles B. Hall Chapter, Honorary Buffalo Soldier, 2016 History Makers Award, 2015 Children’s Champion for Choice, 2013 Woman of the Year Nominee, 2011-2012 Graduate of the United States Air Force ComStar Class, Outstanding Community Service Recognition for Magic Star Foundation from former President Bill Clinton, Asian Legislative Excellence Award, and the Media Advocacy Award from the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. She also received the State, District and National TRIO Awards, and the Oklahoma Achiever under 40 Award. Pittman is the founder of HopeWorks International, a Henry Toll Fellows Graduate, host of the Anastasia Pittman Show, co-host on Caliedascope Radio Network, and is featured on the Touch 1140AM and 92.1 FM.

She is married and has one daughter, one foster son, and three step children. Pittman is the great granddaughter of Abner Burnett, Tulsa Race Riot survivor, and granddaughter of the late Jazz Hall of Famer, C.E Pittman, the late Juanita B. Pittman, and the late Mary Lee Thurman Taylor.
