Johnnie Crutchfield was elected to represent Senate District 14 in southern Oklahoma in 1998. He came to the legislature with extensive experience in local government, first as a city councilman, and then as mayor of Ardmore. Crutchfield is the Chair of the Appropriations Committee and is Chair of the Appropriation Subcommittee on Education. He is also a member of the following committees: Agriculture and Rural Development, Education, Energy and Environment, Rules, Transportation, and Veterans and Military Affairs.

Crutchfield holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and a masters degree in Education both from Southeastern State College . He also did his Post-Graduate work at the University of Oklahoma. The Senator was raised on a cattle ranch in the oil producing region of western Carter County, where he graduated from Wilson High School in 1965. He currently owns cattle ranches in both Carter and Pittsburgh County.

During his time in the Senate, Crutchfield has been honored with numerous awards. In 2001, he was named Legislator of the Year by the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association (OIPA). He was honored again in 2002, when the Oklahoma State Troopers Association named him Legislator of the Year. On May 11, 2006, in appreciation for his support of education and healthcare, the Johnnie Crutchfield Research Laboratory at the OU Health Sciences Center was named in his honor.

He serves on various boards and is a member of several associations including the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, the Texas and Southwestern Cattleraisers Association, along with the OEA, NEA and AEA. He is a lifetime member of the NRA, 32nd Degree KCCH Scottish Rite Mason and India Shrine.

Crutchfield and wife Kipp have been married 38 years and have two daughters, Kristi and Candice.
