Senator Corey Brooks, a Washington, OK native, was elected to his first term in the Oklahoma State Senate on November 6, 2012.  Public Service has been a lifelong calling for Senator Brooks. Following his undergraduate education, Corey began his career in the White House of President George W. Bush serving in the Executive Office of the President. He was then appointed by President Bush to serve as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon. Corey served in this role for over 6 years with duties including political advisement, Congressional and interdepartmental liaison, special projects and policy development covering areas such as defense strategy, the US global military footprint, Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), energy independence and security, privatization, and budget development.

At the close of the Bush Administration, Senator Brooks transitioned to the active component of the United States Navy.  As a Naval officer, LT Brooks worked on the Secretary of the Navy’s Staff as a Military Assistant and Flag Aide, followed by a tour as the Secretary’s Deputy Branch Chief for Special Operations / Irregular Warfare Support. He also spent time at sea on the USS Blue Ridge out of Yokosuka, Japan, worked as a team lead in the Office of Naval Intelligence and attended various Navy schools and exercises across the globe. LT Brooks culminated his active duty service with a year-long combat tour in Afghanistan. Serving as the Officer-in-Charge of the forward-deployed Afghan Threat Finance Cell (ATFC) with responsibility for operations in the remote provinces of Khost and Paktiya, LT Brooks led a joint team charged with identifying and disrupting terrorist and insurgent networks by way of their funding/financing operations, both on the battlefield and around the globe. 

Throughout his career, Senator Brooks has also worked for the Heritage Foundation; the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office; as a Deputy Sheriff in McClain County, Oklahoma; and was appointed by Gov. Frank Keating (R-OK) to serve on the State Advisory Group for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

Corey has a Masters degree in National Security and Strategic Studies (with Distinction) from the U.S. Naval War College, as well as a Bachelors degree in Political Science and Foreign Missions (Summa Cum Laude, with Honors) from Oklahoma Baptist University.

Senator Brooks is also very active in his local church and community. He attends the First Baptist Church of Washington, OK. He has served as a Deacon, lay Youth Minister, committee chair and Sunday school teacher. He is a member of the American Legion and VFW, a former OK Boys’ State Chief of Staff, a pilot, scuba diver and sky diver.
